Mission Report, Greece, January 2024

Department of WarIncident: January 25, 2024Mediterranean Sea680 KBPartly redacted

This MISREP records a special operations surveillance sortie on 25 January 2024 that took off from Larissa in Greece (code LGLR). The originating unit is the 33rd Special Operations Squadron, and the report went through U.S. Central Command. The flight lasted 20 hours and 40 minutes.

The sighting

At 0509Z, while still in transit at 25,000 feet, the crew saw one UAP that they described as a round diamond shape with a straight “tail” or probe hanging beneath it that did not move. It showed up only on the short-wave infrared (SWIR) camera. Its speed was estimated at about 434 knots and its altitude at around 20,000 feet, heading west; the crew noted it kept a steady path, rose and fell, and did not change direction. The event lasted about two minutes, ending at 0511Z.

The observer, listed as a senior airman, assessed the object as solid and benign, with no reaction to the aircraft and no effects on crew or equipment.

The video

A one-minute clip, DOW-UAP-PR028, carries the same description, though its text cites the accompanying mission report as DoW-UAP-D7 rather than this file. The report offers no explanation, and the release reminds readers that the shape, speed and altitude are the observer’s estimates.

The official description

From war.gov/UFO, released May 8, 2026, quoted in full

This document is a Mission Report (MISREP), a standardized reporting form the U.S. Military uses to record the circumstances surrounding its operations. U.S. military services often use MISREPs to report Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) to AARO. The GENTEXT, or “general text” section of these reports often contains important qualitative, contextual information, distinguishing it from the more quantitative, or numerical, data found elsewhere in the report. A U.S. military operator reported observing one UAP, estimating its speed as “approximately 434 knots (499 mph)”. The observer described the UAP as diamond-shaped, with a non-maneuvering probe at the bottom. The observer noted that the UAP was only visible when viewed via an onboard Short-Wave Infrared (SWIR) sensor. The observer reported that the event occurred over a duration of approximately two minutes. All descriptive and estimative language contained in this report reflects the reporter’s subjective interpretation at the time of the event. Such characterizations should not be interpreted as a conclusive indication of the presence or absence of any intrinsic object features or performance characteristics.

The summary above is our own, written from the file itself; the official description is the government’s, from war.gov/UFO. The Pentagon calls these unresolved cases — publishing a file does not mean it shows anything anomalous.
