Mission Report, Greece, October 2023

Department of WarIncident: October 27, 2023Aegean Sea897 KBPartly redacted

This mission report (MISREP) covers a 13.5-hour sortie by the 33rd Special Operations Squadron that took off from LGLR, Larissa in Greece, late on October 26, 2023, and later landed at OJMS in Jordan. At 0035Z on October 27, while en route to its target over the Aegean Sea, the crew spotted what it logged as one possible UAP.

What the crew saw

According to the free text, the object was flying just above the surface of the water and made several 90-degree turns at an estimated 80 mph. The crew lost it from their feed at 0038Z. The description field says it was “seemingly circular, too small to make out details.” The form records no signatures, a solid physical state, unknown propulsion, no response to the aircraft and an assessment of benign; it answers “NO” to intelligent control and “UNK” to advanced capabilities. Weather was clear.

Context

The narrative uses standard remotely piloted aircraft language: the aircraft is handed from the launch and recovery element (LRE) to the mission crew and back. Two days later the same squadron filed a very similar report, DOW-UAP-D035, using almost the same wording for an object heading toward land. Neither report includes imagery or an explanation, and the speed is the crew’s estimate rather than a measured value.

The official description

From war.gov/UFO, released May 8, 2026, quoted in full

This document is a Mission Report (MISREP), a standardized reporting form the U.S. Military uses to record the circumstances surrounding its operations. U.S. military services often use MISREPs to report Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) to AARO. The GENTEXT, or “general text” section of these reports often contains important qualitative, contextual information, distinguishing it from the more quantitative, or numerical, data found elsewhere in the report. A U.S. military operator reported observing a UAP “flying just above the surface of the ocean.” The report describes the UAP as taking “multiple 90-degree turns at an estimated 80 mph.” All descriptive and estimative language contained in this report reflects the reporter’s subjective interpretation at the time of the event. Such characterizations should not be interpreted as a conclusive indication of the presence or absence of any intrinsic object features or performance characteristics.

The summary above is our own, written from the file itself; the official description is the government’s, from war.gov/UFO. The Pentagon calls these unresolved cases — publishing a file does not mean it shows anything anomalous.
