FBI Photo B001

FBIIncident: Late 2025Western United States127 KBPartly redacted

This frame opens the FBI’s B series, a run of still images numbered B001 to B024 that the Bureau handed to AARO. Unlike the A series, which is credited to an unspecified government system, these come from a U.S. military system, and they are placed in the western United States in 2025. In each, the operator could not say what the object was.

What this frame shows

The image is grainy and monochrome, with a crosshair reticle at its center. A small, dark, round object sits in the upper-right quadrant close to the middle of the frame. Behind it is a vague form that AARO reads as either a mountain range or a bank of cloud.

One detail affects the whole series: the date printed on the image is wrong, because the system’s clock had not been set. That means the on-screen stamp cannot be used to date this frame or to put the B frames in order, and the release does not supply a real time for any of them.

What is missing

The imagery was redacted before it reached AARO and arrived without a mission report, so the sensor, range, altitude and platform are not given. A single still cannot show movement or size. Later frames in the series differ in telling ways: B007, for example, includes an object that AARO says looks like a helicopter.

The official description

From war.gov/UFO, released May 8, 2026, quoted in full

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) submitted a report of an unidentified anomalous phenomenon (UAP) to the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) consisting of a still image derived from a U.S. military system in 2025. The original imagery was altered with redactions before being submitted to AARO. An accompanying mission report was not provided. The operator reported that they were unable to positively identify the UAP. The date in the image is incorrect due to system date/time not being set.

Narrative Description: The monochrome image displays a grainy texture with a central crosshair reticle. A small, dark, circular object is visible in the upper right quadrant, near the center of the frame. The background appears to show an indistinct mountain range or cloud formation. This narrative description is provided for informational purposes only. Readers should not interpret any part of this description as reflecting an analytical judgment, investigative conclusion, or factual determination regarding the described event’s validity, nature, or significance.

The summary above is our own; the official description is the government’s, from war.gov/UFO. The Pentagon calls these unresolved cases — publishing a file does not mean it shows anything anomalous.
