Apollo 16 Scientific Debriefing

NASAHouston, TexasLength 55:41

This is a long recording — close to an hour — of a scientific debriefing held in Houston after Apollo 16, where researchers discussed what their experiments had recorded. It is in the PURSUE release for a single sentence. At 32:41, while talking about how different sets of experimental data seemed to line up, a speaker says it “could be an alien starbase or something, I don’t know.”

Hearing the line in context

NASA’s own description calls the remark off-handed, and that is the key to reading it. It came in the middle of a technical point about correlated data, and the hedge at the end — “I don’t know” — signals uncertainty about the data rather than a claim about visitors. The description does not identify the speaker, the experiment or the data being compared, and it records no follow-up.

Why it was released anyway

NASA gives no reason for including the file beyond the remark itself, and nothing in the description connects it to a sighting. Its presence in the PURSUE release shows how widely the archive search was cast. A second Apollo 16 debriefing recording, NASA-UAP-D024, captures principal investigators discussing an unreported flash, and is the more substantive of the two.

The official description

From war.gov/UFO, released June 12, 2026, quoted in full

At 32:41, the speaker makes an off-handed comment, “Could be an alien starbase or something, I don’t know” when discussing correlations between experimental data sets.

The summary above is our own; the official description is the government’s, from war.gov/UFO. The Pentagon calls these unresolved cases — publishing a file does not mean it shows anything anomalous.
