This short file is dated, by its title, to July 2017. “AFSOC” is Air Force Special Operations Command, which flies the Air Force’s special-operations aircraft, and Kabul is the capital of Afghanistan. AARO is more cautious: it places the footage only somewhere in U.S. Central Command’s area, gives no year, and says an infrared sensor on a U.S. military platform likely recorded it.

Two seconds of footage

Most of the clip is empty. For the first 13 seconds AARO describes no content. Then, in the 14th and 15th seconds, a patch of contrast enters from the left edge of the frame and leaves by the right. AARO describes no tracking, zooming or second object.

The video was posted on a classified network in June 2024, seven years after the date in its title if that date is right, and came to light when AARO searched for material named in the March 2026 House request.

Why so little can be said

A two-second crossing on an infrared display gives no range, so its size and speed cannot be worked out, and the release attaches no mission report or crew statement. With the date and place unconfirmed, even its link to Kabul rests on the uploader. AARO’s description is not an analytical judgment, and the case remains unresolved in the release. More on the sensors involved is under FLIR.

The official description

From war.gov/UFO, released May 22, 2026, quoted in full

On March 6, 2026, eight members of the U.S. House of Representatives requested access to 51 potentially UAP-related records allegedly held by the Department of War and the Intelligence Community. The All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) identified a collection of responsive materials held on a classified network. Many of these materials lack a substantiated chain-of-custody.

AARO assesses that this video, whose uploader-defined title is, “AFSOC Kabul UAP Jul 2017,” is likely derived from an infrared sensor aboard a U.S. military platform operating within the United States Central Command area of responsibility. A user uploaded this video to a classified network in June 2024.

Video Duration: 00:00:17 Video Description: 00:00-00:13: No content. 00:14-00:15: An area of contrast moves into the sensor field-of-view from the left edge and moves to the right edge out of the field-of-view.
