Unresolved UAP Report, Eastern United States, 2020

This short video was submitted to AARO by U.S. Northern Command, which is responsible for the defense of North America, and was recorded in 2020 somewhere in the eastern United States. Its companion is a Range Fouler Debrief, DOW-UAP-D089, the Navy form for reporting an intrusion into controlled airspace during operations or training.

What the debrief describes

The operator called the object “quite small” and said it kept going in one constant direction. Its shape could not be made out — the debrief calls it “indistinguishable” — but it was described as looking metallic, with a reflective underside.

Why the video adds little

The footage holds only a few seconds of usable picture. The release gives its length as 11 seconds, though the collection’s index lists 5, and the timeline covers just the first four. A patch of contrast is visible above center at the start; then the sensor switches modes, and AARO attributes the contrast’s sudden darting around the frame to that switch, after which it leaves through the top. AARO also notes that the clip was digitally altered before it was reported and is published as received. Words like “metallic” are the reporter’s impressions, not findings, and the case remains unresolved. On infrared sensors, see FLIR.

The official description

From war.gov/UFO, released July 10, 2026, quoted in full

The United States Northern Command submitted a report of an unidentified anomalous phenomenon to the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) consisting of 11 seconds of video footage from an infrared sensor aboard a U.S. military platform in 2020. An accompanying Range Fouler Debrief, DOW-UAP-D089, describes the phenomenon as “quite small” and as “continu[ing] in a constant direction.” The report characterizes the shape of the phenomenon as “indistinguishable,” with a metallic appearance and reflective underside.

Video Description: This media was digitally altered before being reported to AARO, and is presented as received. 00:01-00:01: An area of contrast is visible above the center of the frame. 00:02-00:04: The sensor switches modes, causing the area of contrast to rapidly move about within the field-of-view. The area of contrast leaves the sensor field-of-view from the top of the frame.

The summary above is our own; the official description is the government’s, from war.gov/UFO. The Pentagon calls these unresolved cases — publishing a file does not mean it shows anything anomalous.
