PENTAGON UFO FILE · VIDEO · DOW-UAP-PR108Unresolved UAP Report, Western United States, 2020
U.S. Northern Command submitted this infrared clip to AARO; it was recorded in 2020 in the western United States. Unlike some Northern Command videos in the same release, it comes with no written debrief, and the platform is not named.
The lock-on
The opening is mostly empty, and the screen flashes between picture and black as the sensor changes display modes. At about 0:28 the operator zooms in and begins following a patch of contrast. From 0:34 to 0:57 an auto-tracking reticle — the marker the sensor draws when its tracker has locked onto a target — surrounds the contrast as it is followed against the background. After that the operator adjusts zoom and contrast repeatedly, and at around 1:11 the object leaves the frame to the left and is not found again.
Gaps in the record
The release lists the video as 2 minutes 16 seconds, but its timeline stops at 1:34 and the collection’s index gives 95 seconds, so the true length is unclear. Without a debrief there is no operator description of shape, size or speed, and the footage gives no range. An automatic lock shows that the tracker found something with enough contrast to follow; on its own it says nothing about what the object was. The case is unresolved. See FLIR for how these sensors work.
The official description
From war.gov/UFO, released July 10, 2026, quoted in full
The United States Northern Command submitted a report of an unidentified anomalous phenomenon to the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) consisting of 2 minutes and 16 seconds of video footage from an infrared sensor aboard a U.S. military platform in 2020.
Video Description: 00:01-00:15: No content. 00:16-00:19: The footage flashes between normal operation and a black screen several times as the sensor changes display modes. 00:20-00:27: No content. 00:28-00:33: The sensor zooms in and pans to track an area of contrast, keeping it generally within the center of the frame. 00:34-00:57: An auto-tracking reticle surrounds the area of contrast as the sensor continues to track it against the background. 00:58-01:10: The sensor adjusts its zoom level and contrast settings several times. 01:11-01:34: The area of contrast leaves the sensor field-of-view to the left of the frame. The sensor adjusts its zoom level and contrast settings several times. No content.
