This video came to AARO from U.S. Indo-Pacific Command and was recorded in 2023 over the Yellow Sea. It was published in the sixth PURSUE release on September 18, 2026, alongside several other short Yellow Sea clips from the same year. There is no accompanying operator report, and the platform is not named.

What happens in the clip

After a few empty seconds, a patch of contrast comes in from the bottom edge of the picture. From about 0:08 a rectangular overlay appears near the middle of the frame, which AARO calls a “focus box,” and the operator pans to stay with the object. In the last few seconds, from 0:52, part of the collecting platform itself gets in the way of the sensor, blurring the display and blanking out its right side.

Overlays and obstructions

Both of the clip’s distinctive features concern the sensor rather than the object. The focus box is part of the sensor system’s on-screen graphics. AARO’s note says the box “does indicate a physical change in the environment,” which in context reads like a slip for “does not”: the point of the note is that the box is only a display element. The obstruction at the end shows that a mounted sensor can have parts of its view blocked by the very aircraft or vessel carrying it. The release offers no identification and lists the case as unresolved. On infrared imaging, see FLIR.

The official description

From war.gov/UFO, released September 18, 2026, quoted in full

The United States Indo-Pacific Command submitted a report of an unidentified anomalous phenomenon to the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) consisting of 57 seconds of video footage from an infrared sensor aboard a U.S. military platform in 2023.

Video Description: 00:00-00:05: No content. 00:06-00:07: An area of contrast enters the sensor field-of view from the bottom edge. 00:08-00:51: A rectangular digital overlay, or “focus box,” appears near the center of the frame. This display element is a graphical component of the sensor system and does indicate a physical change in the environment. The sensor pans to track the area of contrast. 00:52-00:57: The collection platform geometry occludes the sensor, blurring the display and blocking the right side of the screen.

The summary above is our own; the official description is the government’s, from war.gov/UFO. The Pentagon calls these unresolved cases — publishing a file does not mean it shows anything anomalous.
