FD-302-71, “Northeastern Orb Sighting,” 2026

FBIIncident: 2026Northeastern United States289 KBPartly redacted

This FD-302 is the companion to FBI-UAP-D009. It records an in-person interview, its date redacted, of the person who first spotted lights behind a home in the northeastern United States; a second person was interviewed alongside. It overlaps with D009 but differs in several details, which makes the pair a useful example of how witnesses to one scene can describe it differently.

How this account differs

Here the first light, seen through the windshield on arriving home around 9:15 p.m., is yellow and about the size of a basketball; out of the car, the witness saw a second, larger one, about the size of a beach ball. Both were behind a row of trees that has since been cut down. The witness says the lights could be watched without eye strain and reports no health problems since. An agent’s note, based on where the witness stood, puts the objects about 30 yards away and 20–30 feet off the ground.

Joined by the other person, the witness watched them slide left at the same height, behind a tree and past a neighbor’s house, and then saw one appear to move into the other before both abruptly vanished. The report repeats the later sighting of white orbs crossing higher overhead, which it contrasts with “the prior red orbs.”

A memory from 1987

The interviewee also told agents about 1987, when a red light near power lines circled on itself at night, compared to the front of the car in the TV series Knight Rider, then hovered and landed near a power station. The witness says that experience started a long interest in UAP. Agents attached photos taken with permission; the related video is FBI-UAP-PR004.

The official description

From war.gov/UFO, released June 12, 2026, quoted in full

This document is an FBI FD-302, a form the Federal Bureau of Investigation uses to record interviews. This FD-302 records an interview with a U.S. person regarding their first-hand account of an incident potentially involving unidentified anomalous phenomena.

The subject matter described in files FBI-UAP-D009 and FBI-UAP-D010 and depicted in the video footage FBI-UAP-PR004 corresponds to reports originating from the same general area in the northeastern United States.

The summary above is our own, written from the file itself; the official description is the government’s, from war.gov/UFO. The Pentagon calls these unresolved cases — publishing a file does not mean it shows anything anomalous.
