PENTAGON UFO FILE · DOCUMENT · FBI-UAP-D037FD-302, “Multiple Red Lights,” 2026
This FD-302 is the write-up of a 2026 interview with one of two people who spent an evening in the western United States watching a series of lights; his companion’s account is FBI-UAP-D040. He told agents he had used night optical devices (NODs, a term for night-vision goggles) for more than 25 years. The FBI made two renderings from the pair’s descriptions, starting with FBI-UAP-D038.
Several sightings in one evening
The pair set out at about 7:45 p.m. in rain and heavy cloud. Around 8:00–8:30 he saw two dull red, “dash”-shaped lights moving along a ridgeline to the west. Through NODs they looked round, with the halo any light source shows in night vision; he notes he has astigmatism, and his companion saw them as triangles or diamonds. They vanished after about 20 minutes, and a similar light then appeared directly overhead for about 10. Between 10 and 11 p.m. a light appeared roughly 600 meters to the east and 500 feet up, came toward them and stopped about 400 meters away; a second joined it, apparently just 6 feet off the ground. Meanwhile a glow descended into a dry wash about 100 meters behind them and moved along it. When they drove to get a better view, the lights were gone.
The watch
Later his automatic analog watch read about 1:00 a.m. by his memory, while his phone showed 12:40; the report records the watch as 25 minutes ahead of the phones, the car clock and his companion’s digital watch, without reconciling that with the two times he recalled. It had been accurate at 10:00 p.m., and in about five years had never drifted more than 60–90 seconds. He said the lights did not track like satellites, made no sound, did not show on thermal optics, and stirred curiosity rather than fear.
The official description
From war.gov/UFO, released August 7, 2026, quoted in full
This document is an FBI FD-302, a form the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) uses to record interviews. This FD-302 records a 2026 interview with a U.S. person, in which the interviewee describes three incidents potentially involving unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) in the western United States occurring within a 5-hour period in 2026. A second individual who was present at the time also provided an interview, recorded in this collection as “FBI-UAP-D040.” Two FBI digital renderings based upon the observer’s descriptions accompany this document, under the titles FBI-UAP-D038 and FBI-UAP-D039.
