“Red Orb Rotation,” Northeastern United States, 2022

FBIIncident: March 2022Northeastern United StatesLength 2:43
2:43 · plays from our Internet Archive copy · original on DVIDS

This video, filmed in March 2022, is the middle one, by date, of three FBI clips from one part of the northeastern United States, and the calmest of them. The witness, whom the FBI rates as highly credible, recorded it on an iPhone 12 Pro at a sparsely populated spot they knew well, at about 1920 local time.

What the video shows

Two bright red lights hang near the horizon, an estimated 2,500 feet away, and hardly move. The one interesting motion is relative: the lower light slowly swings around the upper one, from roughly the six o’clock position to just past nine o’clock. The witness heard nothing. The clip runs 163 seconds, the same length as “Triangle Orbs.”

How it fits the series

The FBI groups this clip with two others — the earlier “Triangle Orbs” and the later “Orbs Over the Pond” — and with five witness interview forms, FBI-UAP-D004 through D008, all from the same general area. The 2,500-foot figure is the witness’s estimate; with lights at night and no reference objects, distance is hard to judge, and that affects any estimate of size. The FBI offers no explanation, and the clip’s publication is not a finding that the lights were anomalous.

The official description

From war.gov/UFO, released June 12, 2026, quoted in full

In March 2022, at approximately 1920 local time in the northeastern United States, an eyewitness observed two bright red luminous light sources hovering near the horizon at an estimated distance of 2,500 feet. Both luminous objects maintained generally stationary positions throughout the encounter. The lower light source appeared to rotate slowly relative to the upper light source, moving from an apparent 6 o’clock position to slightly beyond the apparent 9 o’clock position. The eyewitness did not hear any sounds from the light sources. The eyewitness captured this video using an iPhone 12 Pro at a location well known to them, which is sparsely populated.

The description above is derived from statements provided to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) by an eyewitness to the event. The FBI assesses the individual who reported this event as highly credible. The subject matter described in files FBI-UAP-D004 through FBI-UAP-D008 and depicted in the video footage FBI-UAP-PR001 through FBI-UAP-PR003 corresponds to reports originating from the same general area in the northeastern United States.

The summary above is our own; the official description is the government’s, from war.gov/UFO. The Pentagon calls these unresolved cases — publishing a file does not mean it shows anything anomalous.
