This frame belongs to the A series of still images that the FBI forwarded to AARO, each taken from a U.S. government system and each showing something its operator could not identify. As with the rest of the series, the release gives no date or location; the collection’s index places it only in late 2025.

What this frame shows

The picture is monochrome, with a mottled, uneven background that AARO says may be a varied landscape or surface. A dark, circular object sits right at the center of the crosshair reticle, the marker a sensor display overlays on its view. That centered dark circle is the frame’s defining feature, and it recurs in two near-identical neighbors, A003 and A006. It contrasts with A001, where a smaller, irregular shape sits off-center, and with A007, the one frame in the set with a light-colored object.

Parts of the image were blacked out before AARO received it, and no mission report accompanied it, so the sensor type, range and altitude are all unknown.

Limits of the record

A single still shows neither motion nor scale, so nothing here establishes the object’s size, distance or speed. The only judgment on record is the operator’s: no positive identification. AARO’s narrative describes the image without analyzing it and suggests no explanation. Whether the A frames show one event or several is not stated.

The official description

From war.gov/UFO, released May 8, 2026, quoted in full

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) submitted a report of an unidentified anomalous phenomenon (UAP) to the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) consisting of a still image derived from a U.S. government system. The date and location of the event have not been provided. The original imagery was altered with redactions before being submitted to AARO. An accompanying mission report was not provided. The operator reported that they were unable to positively identify the UAP.

Narrative Description: The monochrome image displays a mottled background with a central crosshair reticle. A dark, circular object is located at the center of the reticle. The background has a textured, uneven appearance suggesting a varied landscape or surface. This narrative description is provided for informational purposes only. Readers should not interpret any part of this description as reflecting an analytical judgment, investigative conclusion, or factual determination regarding the described event’s validity, nature, or significance.

The summary above is our own; the official description is the government’s, from war.gov/UFO. The Pentagon calls these unresolved cases — publishing a file does not mean it shows anything anomalous.
