This is one of the A series of still images the FBI passed to AARO, all taken from a U.S. government system and all showing an object the operator could not identify. Like its siblings it comes with no date or place, only the collection’s note of late 2025, and no mission report.

Why this frame stands out

Every other frame in the A series shows a dark object. Here the object is light-colored and round, sitting just below the center of the crosshair, and AARO notes a bright specular highlight on it. A specular highlight is the sharp, bright spot produced when a light source reflects directly off a surface, the way sunlight glints off a car roof, so its presence points to a reasonably smooth surface catching light at that moment. The background is also unlike most of its neighbors: smooth and grainy, with none of the mottled, terrain-like texture described in frames such as A002.

The image was redacted before AARO received it, so whatever text or data the display carried is not visible.

What it does not tell us

A glint shows that something reflected light; it does not say what the object was, how big or how far away. AARO’s narrative is descriptive only, and the release contains no identification. The other FBI still series, which is placed in the western United States, begins at B001.

The official description

From war.gov/UFO, released May 8, 2026, quoted in full

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) submitted a report of an unidentified anomalous phenomenon (UAP) to the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) consisting of a still image derived from a U.S. government system. The date and location of the event have not been provided. The original imagery was altered with redactions before being submitted to AARO. An accompanying mission report was not provided. The operator reported that they were unable to positively identify the UAP.

Narrative Description: The monochrome image displays a smooth, grainy background with a central crosshair reticle. A light-colored, circular object with a bright specular highlight is visible just below the center of the reticle. This narrative description is provided for informational purposes only. Readers should not interpret any part of this description as reflecting an analytical judgment, investigative conclusion, or factual determination regarding the described event’s validity, nature, or significance.

The summary above is our own; the official description is the government’s, from war.gov/UFO. The Pentagon calls these unresolved cases — publishing a file does not mean it shows anything anomalous.
