FBI September 2023 Sighting - Serial 003

FBIIncident: September 1, 2023United States227 KBPartly redacted

This FD-302 is one of a set of FBI interview reports, each labeled by serial number, about a single morning in September 2023 at a U.S. test site, when contractors and site staff driving out for tests saw something in the sky. This interviewee, whose title is redacted, had restricted the airspace for that morning’s tests and had worked at the site for fifteen years. Two other accounts are Serial 004 and Serial 005.

The object

After a 7:02 a.m. briefing, three vehicles set out, with her driving the first. Between 7:15 and 7:30 a gate she was opening with a remote fob closed again three times and only stayed open on the fourth try, though it had no problems before or after. Driving through, she looked up and saw a cigar-shaped object to the southwest, 500 to 3,000 feet above a tree line about a mile away, almost hovering and drifting from east to west. An intense diamond-white light ringed by a halo sat at its eastern end, like looking into the sun. She put its length at two or three Black Hawk helicopters lined up nose to tail. It was silent, left no contrail and, after five to ten seconds, simply disappeared.

Afterwards

She was at first annoyed, assuming something had entered her restricted airspace, then decided it was not an aircraft or a drone. A passenger in the second vehicle said he saw it too. She told agents she would not have reported it had she been alone, and that co-workers made fun of her. No photos or video were taken.

A note on the download

The PDF linked from this entry, on war.gov and in our archived copy, is the file named “Serial 5”, and it holds a different interview: the bright-light account described under Serial 005. The bronze-object interview described above is the PDF linked from Serial 004. The mix-up is in the government’s release; the descriptions and file names don’t line up.

The official description

From war.gov/UFO, released May 8, 2026, quoted in full

This is an FBI 302 interview conducted with a US citizen regarding their first-hand account of a UAP encounter at a US test site. USPER described an object "metallic bronze in color."

The summary above is our own, written from the file itself; the official description is the government’s, from war.gov/UFO. The Pentagon calls these unresolved cases — publishing a file does not mean it shows anything anomalous.
