PENTAGON UFO FILE · DOCUMENTFBI September 2023 Sighting - Serial 005
This FD-302, conducted over FaceTime video, is the most modest of the serial-numbered FBI interviews about a September 2023 sighting at a U.S. test site. Where others in the convoy described a solid, cigar-shaped or linear object, this witness, driving east to collect data for LiDAR testing, describes only a light. Compare Serial 003 and Serial 004.
A light over the horizon
After the vehicles passed through a couple of gates, he saw a bright white light through the top right of his windshield. It hung still, then moved to the right and disappeared, staying the same size throughout; he saw it for about ten seconds and judged it ten to twenty miles away. He noticed no interference with his vehicle. He pointed it out to his passenger, who looked in the wrong direction and, being tall with his seat leaned back, was badly placed to see it. The passenger was indifferent until they reached the test site and others said they had seen it too. He gives the time as around 9:00 a.m., later than other accounts of the same morning.
His own explanation
The report’s second page records an ordinary possibility the witness considered: that the light might have been a meteor heading straight toward them and burning up in the atmosphere. His account is a useful counterweight in the set, a reminder that witnesses to the same moment can see, or interpret, very different things.
A note on the download
The PDF linked from this entry, on war.gov and in our archived copy, is the file named “Serial 4”, and it holds the metallic gray account described under Serial 004. The bright-light interview described above is the PDF linked from Serial 003. The mix-up is in the government’s release; the descriptions and file names don’t line up.
