This image is the FBI’s 2026 visual aid for the joint interview in FBI-UAP-D028, in which two men who once served in the U.S. military describe a summer evening in June or July 2011. The place is redacted in the interview and blank in the release’s metadata, so the picture is not tied to any location.

The description behind it

The two men told agents they had just pulled out of a driveway after dark when one of them saw three lights in the sky, got out and looked up at a massive black triangle flying north, low over the houses. A large white light sat in each corner, set back slightly and giving off a diffuse glow, and the object made a low, pulsing hum. One of them remembered something grayish or graphite-colored in the middle. They saw it for only ten to fifteen seconds before it went over the tree line, and estimated it at about twice as long as it was wide. They disagreed slightly on whether the shape was equilateral or isosceles.

What the image cannot show

Both witnesses said they were mostly underneath the object and could not recall its thickness or side profile, so any view other than from below is the artist’s inference. No photo or video was taken; their attempt to film it is why they missed a better view. The rendering illustrates their memory, not evidence of what flew over.

The official description

From war.gov/UFO, released August 7, 2026, quoted in full

This image is an artistic interpretation of a reported incident potentially involving unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) in June or July of 2011. This image is based upon a first-hand description provided by two former U.S. military service members, as described in FBI-UAP-D028. The Federal Bureau of Investigation prepared this digital rendering in 2026 as a visual aid in support of the PURSUE initiative.

The summary above is our own; the official description is the government’s, from war.gov/UFO. The Pentagon calls these unresolved cases — publishing a file does not mean it shows anything anomalous.
