FD-302, “Large Triangle with Red Lights,” 2023

FBIIncident: 2023Colorado Springs, Colorado457 KBPartly redacted

This FD-302 is the record of an interview in October 2025 with a Colorado Springs man who says he often watches military, commercial and civilian aircraft over the city. It concerns one clear night in October 2023, between 8 and 9:30 p.m., when he and a co-worker were outside looking at the stars. It is one of two FBI interviews in the release about triangles over Colorado Springs that month; the other is FBI-UAP-D026, and this one’s rendering is FBI-UAP-D031.

From a cloud to a burst of speed

He says he was watching a very bright star when he caught movement to his left: a stationary dark-gray cloud that looked pixelated or distorted, “phasing” into view. Out of it came the point of a solid black triangle with a steady red light, then the rest of an equilateral shape with a red light at each corner. He estimated it as large as the parking lot he stood in and three to five stories thick, moving at about helicopter speed at 3,000–5,000 feet. Then, he says, it accelerated almost instantly, perhaps to Mach 1 or 2, with waves around it like heat shimmer on a hot road, banked 90 degrees onto its left side while veering right, and leveled out again. It was silent, with no visible propulsion or smell. When he looked back, the cloud was gone.

An odd postscript

About a minute later he phoned his wife, who told him his voice sounded robotic, as if the call had electronic interference. The report records this without comment, and the phone provider’s name is redacted. Speeds, sizes and heights are his estimates; nothing in the file measures them.

The official description

From war.gov/UFO, released August 7, 2026, quoted in full

This document is an FBI FD-302, a form the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) uses to record interviews. This FD-302 records an October 2025 interview with a U.S. Person, in which the interviewee describes an incident potentially involving unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in October 2023. An FBI digital rendering based upon the observer’s description accompanies this document, under the title FBI-UAP-D031.

The summary above is our own, written from the file itself; the official description is the government’s, from war.gov/UFO. The Pentagon calls these unresolved cases — publishing a file does not mean it shows anything anomalous.
