FD-1057, Unresolved UAP Report, Colorado Springs, 2022

FBIIncident: 2022Colorado Springs, Colorado, U.S.980 KBPartly redacted

This FD-1057, the FBI’s form for recording investigative steps, documents a session with a forensic artist rather than a standard interview. A former U.S. Army intelligence officer, one of five members of a unit who saw something over the Cheyenne Mountain area near Colorado Springs in 2022, sat down in June 2024 at the FBI’s office at 26 Federal Plaza in New York with an agent and an artist from the Bureau’s Operational Projects Unit. The point was to turn his memory into a picture.

The object in his words

He described a perfect “blue bird” sky, no clouds and about 50 degrees Fahrenheit, as the group left their office building. The object was “potato” shaped with distinct edges, creamy white and opalescent, slightly translucent with a faint shimmer. Its surface, he said, was made of irregular, non-overlapping panels like “articulating fish scales,” which shifted in slow waves while the object itself stayed perfectly still. After about two minutes it vanished — “cloaked,” in his word, in the time it took to turn his head — and it cast no shadow. The memo encloses a first sketch draft and says further drafts would follow.

Comparing the accounts

The FD-302 in FBI-UAP-D001 records another account of the same event, with a “bean-shaped,” matte, non-metallic object watched for 3–5 minutes. With names redacted, the release does not make clear whether the two records come from the same witness. The finished artwork is FBI-UAP-D003.

This document is an FBI FD-1057, a form the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) uses to record investigative activity. This FD-1057 contains a first-hand narrative description of unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) reported near Colorado Springs, Colorado. The interviewee provided this statement to FBI special agents to aid in producing a digital artistic interpretation of the incident.

The summary above is our own, written from the file itself; the official description is the government’s, from war.gov/UFO. The Pentagon calls these unresolved cases — publishing a file does not mean it shows anything anomalous.
