FD-302, “Dark Translucent Triangle,” 2023

FBIIncident: 2023Colorado Springs, Colorado523 KBPartly redacted

This FD-302 is the record of an FBI interview in January 2026 with a man who formerly worked for the Department of War, the Pentagon’s current name. He describes a few seconds one October night in 2023 when, sitting on his back porch in Colorado Springs with his wife, he saw a triangular object pass over the house. The FBI turned his description into a rendering, FBI-UAP-D027.

What he described

It was about 10:50 p.m. and the sky was clear, though he recalls few stars. He noticed movement before he made out a shape: something had come over the house from the northeast and was heading southwest, possibly as low as 300 feet. He judged it about the size of a large SUV; at arm’s length it spanned the gap between his thumb and forefinger. It looked like a triangle with rounded corners, dark gray or silver, almost see-through and wrapped in a haze he likened to ripples around something under water. A band of silvery-blue light ran along its flat trailing edge, which he guessed might be its propulsion. It flew straight, level and fast, then tipped one side up almost to vertical without changing course, and disappeared sooner than he expected. It made no sound, and he felt no rumble or static.

Why he found it unusual

He lived near an airport, often watched private planes and helicopters, and said he knew U.S. Air Force aircraft, including newer drones; nothing matched. It had no wings, fins or engine housing that he could see. Afterward he and his wife went to separate rooms (the rest of that sentence is redacted), and she recalled a dark seam around its edge. No photo or video was taken.

From war.gov/UFO, released August 7, 2026, quoted in full

This document is an FBI FD-302, a form the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) uses to record interviews. This FD-302 records a January 2026 interview with a former employee of the Department of War, in which the interviewee describes an incident potentially involving unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in October 2023. An FBI digital rendering based upon the observer’s description accompanies this document, under the title FBI-UAP-D027.

The summary above is our own, written from the file itself; the official description is the government’s, from war.gov/UFO. The Pentagon calls these unresolved cases — publishing a file does not mean it shows anything anomalous.
