This image is the FBI’s 2026 visual aid for the interview in FBI-UAP-D030, in which a Colorado Springs man describes an evening in October 2023 when he and a co-worker were outside looking at the stars. It is the second triangle illustrated from Colorado Springs that month; the first, from a different witness, is FBI-UAP-D027.

The scene it illustrates

The witness said a stationary dark-gray cloud, oddly pixelated or distorted, appeared in the sky, and the point of a solid black triangle with a steady red light emerged from it, followed by the rest of an equilateral shape with a red light at each corner. He estimated it to be as large as the parking lot he was standing in and several stories thick; at arm’s length each light was about the size of a fingernail. He described waves radiating around it like heat shimmer over a road, a sudden burst of speed, and a sharp bank onto its side before it leveled out and disappeared to the south. When he looked back, the cloud had gone.

Two triangles, different details

The two Colorado Springs accounts differ: the other witness saw a hazy, almost translucent triangle with a pale band of light along its rear edge, not red corner lights. Each rendering follows its own witness’s memory, and neither interview offers an explanation.

The official description

From war.gov/UFO, released August 7, 2026, quoted in full

This image is an artistic interpretation of a reported incident potentially involving unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) near Colorado Springs, Colorado in 2023. This image is based upon a first-hand description provided by a U.S. Person, as described in FBI-UAP-D030. The Federal Bureau of Investigation prepared this digital rendering in 2026 as a visual aid in support of the PURSUE initiative.

The summary above is our own; the official description is the government’s, from war.gov/UFO. The Pentagon calls these unresolved cases — publishing a file does not mean it shows anything anomalous.
