FD-302, Unresolved UAP Report, Colorado Springs, 2022

FBIIncident: February 2022Colorado Springs, Colorado, U.S.384 KBPartly redacted

This is an FBI FD-302, the standard form agents use to write up an interview. Agents spoke to a U.S. service member over Microsoft Teams in March 2025 about something he and four others from his unit saw near Fort Carson, outside Colorado Springs, in early February 2022. Names, the building and other details are blacked out.

The sighting as he described it

It was a workday around 1:00 or 2:00 P.M., with clear blue skies. Walking west toward a building, the five men noticed an object apparently hovering over a low “saddle” in Cheyenne Mountain (spelled “Cheyanne” in the file). He described it as oval and horizontal with a curved dent underneath, matte white and non-metallic, covered in crossing lines that made an abstract polygon pattern. It held its position against the saddle for about 3–5 minutes, which is why they ruled out drift on the wind; he put its apparent size at about a pool cue held at arm’s length.

None of them had a phone. When they glanced away to send someone for one, the object was gone, and they could not find it again. Afterward they discussed a blimp or weather balloon, then each drew the object separately; he said the drawings matched. He believed someone reported it to the Army, and said AARO contacted him in early 2024 but never interviewed him.

Related records

An FBI note says AARO has since followed up with the interviewee. A separate forensic-sketch interview about the same sighting is FBI-UAP-D002, and the resulting artwork is FBI-UAP-D003. The 302 itself records a recollection; it contains no FBI conclusion.

The official description

From war.gov/UFO, released June 12, 2026, quoted in full

This document is a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) FD-302, a form the FBI uses to record interviews. This FD-302 contains a summary of an interview with a U.S. military service member in March 2025 regarding a February 2022 incident potentially involving unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP). The individual described the phenomenon as being “bean shaped,” “matte white” or “off-white” in color, with a surface covered in “intersecting lines or ridges which formed an abstract polygon pattern.” The individual described the phenomenon as “motionless” and that “no sound could be heard coming from it.” FBI Note: AARO has since been in contact with the interviewee to conduct subsequent interviews to inform its analysis of this incident.

The summary above is our own, written from the file itself; the official description is the government’s, from war.gov/UFO. The Pentagon calls these unresolved cases — publishing a file does not mean it shows anything anomalous.
