PENTAGON UFO FILE · DOCUMENT · FBI-UAP-D041Digital Rendering 1, “Multiple Red Lights,” 2026
This image is the first of two the FBI drew in 2026 from the telephone interview in FBI-UAP-D040, the second witness to the night of red lights in the western United States that is also described in FBI-UAP-D037. The second picture is FBI-UAP-D042. The file is image-only, and the release does not say which part of the night each picture shows.
The account behind it
This witness describes a red light first seen at the crest of a mountain range to the west, which began moving east under a thick cloud deck that hid every star. Several more red lights then appeared directly overhead and seemed to fall into step with the first before heading off to the east-southeast; one dropped sharply and vanished. To the naked eye and through night-vision optics each was a single red point, but when he squinted, each resolved into three lights in a triangle or diamond that never separated, as if fixed to one object. Later he saw two lights on or near the ground, visible only through night vision, and a streak like a sparkler.
A picture of a perception
Because the triangular arrangement appeared only on close, squinting observation, any drawing of it records how this witness perceived the lights, not a confirmed shape. His companion saw dash-shaped lights instead. The interview offers no explanation.
The official description
From war.gov/UFO, released August 7, 2026, quoted in full
This image is an artistic interpretation of a reported incident potentially involving unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) in the western United States in 2026. This image is based upon a first-hand description provided by two U.S. persons, as described in FBI-UAP-D040. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) prepared this digital rendering in 2026 as a visual aid in support of the PURSUE initiative.
