Mission Report, Syria, July 2022

Department of WarIncident: July 31, 2022Syria7 MBPartly redacted

This MISREP records an armed reconnaissance sortie on 30–31 July 2022 under Operation Inherent Resolve. The aircraft departed Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan for an imagery tasking requested by a task force called TF CHOSIN, and the originating unit was the 89th Attack Squadron. The mission lasted nearly 21 hours.

The sighting

After checking in with the task force to watch a location in Syria, the crew logged a UAP event at 0239Z on 31 July. The free-text entry is brief: the event lasted less than a minute, with the object moving from north to south. At the time the aircraft was at 19,359 feet and 116 knots. The UAP section notes no signatures, and the object’s altitude, speed and path are blank; the first-seen location is a partly redacted grid reference.

The rest of the report is routine: signals and imagery collection, the return to base and the crew’s mission statistics.

The video

A 14-second clip released with this report, DOW-UAP-PR022, shows infrared and daylight views side by side, with an object crossing the top of the frame. A sighting this short, from a single sensor, gives little to judge speed or size by, and the release stresses that descriptions are the crew’s impressions.

The official description

From war.gov/UFO, released May 8, 2026, quoted in full

This document is a Mission Report (MISREP), a standardized reporting form the U.S. Military uses to record the circumstances surrounding its operations. U.S. military services often use MISREPs to report Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) to AARO. The GENTEXT, or “general text” section of these reports often contains important qualitative, contextual information, distinguishing it from the more quantitative, or numerical, data found elsewhere in the report. A U.S. military operator reported observing one UAP move from north to south, with a total duration of under one minute. All descriptive and estimative language contained in this report reflects the reporter’s subjective interpretation at the time of the event. Such characterizations should not be interpreted as a conclusive indication of the presence or absence of any intrinsic object features or performance characteristics.

The summary above is our own, written from the file itself; the official description is the government’s, from war.gov/UFO. The Pentagon calls these unresolved cases — publishing a file does not mean it shows anything anomalous.
